Please Welcome, Jaclyn Tracey, Author of Eden's Black Rose, coming soon at The Wild Rose Press

Good Morning!
I would like to begin by thanking my friend and gracious host, Dayana Knight for inviting me to this forum. This is my first official blog so please excuse any shortcomings. I would like to do a quick shout out to my editor, for without her, I would not be here at all. Callie Lynn, if you’re out there get a glass of wine and cheers with me. I don’t care that you haven’t had your coffee yet or that it’s only 8 am. No time like the present. Third, I would like thank the Wild Rose Press for mediating the month long celebration of All Hallow’s Eve. There really are spookier things out in the world other than werewolves, vampires and witches. An author with a virgin sheet of paper and a pen in a rotten mood can be lethal. In a romantic mood, she/he can be your date on a lonely Friday night. In a quirky mood, they can leave your cheeks hurting and your heart filled with laughter. They can make your one-room apartment feel like the Taj Mahal or steal you away from your job at lunch when you’d love nothing more than to have a piñata with your boss’s name tag pinned to it. Trust me… been there! It’s why I love to read. I recently read an article in one of the Romance Writers of America’s journals that stated most writers are depressed people. If this is true, I should be on a cocktail of hefty medications, but instead, I find humor works the best magic to healing one’s soul.

In case you’re wondering who I am, my name is Jaclyn Tracey, author of Eden’s Black Rose, a paranormal romance that takes place in London 1896. The story is about Dr. Serina Spencer, a young woman with hidden talents that she’d like kept that way. While walking home from the morgue, she inadvertently wishes for a man to show up on her door stoop, alive, in one bloody piece, betrothed to no one and interested in anyone other than himself for a change.
Serina finds out the hard way it’s not so much what you wish for, but more importantly, how you wish for it, when a young man gets delivered to her door ravaged and left for dead from a vampire attack. After years of hiding her powers from the world Serina is faced with a choice—use them or lose the one man that can make her dreams come true.
Lucian St. James is not your typical royal heir to the throne, wanting nothing to do with his heritage until that option is stolen from him. Awakening in a bloody carriage with a gorgeous green-eyed beauty buried within his loins, he finds out fast, all things are not as they seem. Lies have been told, family members murdered and now Lucian and Serina find themselves in the centre of a macabre plot to knock out all heirs to the throne beginning with him on his honeymoon.

In November ’04 after my team went home without another ring in the World Series, I began reading to take up my spare time. Television was taboo. I’d had it with reality shows. I have enough drama in my life.
Soooooo… after 2 months of doing absolutely nothing other than reading all of my favorite author’s books, (Laurell K Hamilton’s—Anita Blake Vampire series; Karen Marie Moning’s—Highlander series, Christine Feehan’s—Carpathian’s and Kim Harrison’s—Hollow’s series) I sat down and picked up a pen, yes a pen, because I seriously can’t type and my editor will attest to this and began writing the great American novel. A few months into this my husband bought me a computer and with it, himself some headaches.
I spent 365 days secluded (more or less) with my computer. 1120 pages later, I emerged triumphant. I wrote a book! Then the fun/fear began. I went in search of publishing houses. As every author has their list of “Dear John” rejection letters, my first one dragged me down into the pit of despair. The piñata would have come in handy then. How could that man not see that he had a best selling novel in his grasp and he let her go? He didn’t deserve her. He wrote one word on the first page of my MS—Etymology Book. All right two words!
I learned a great deal from that and sent my baby out into the world smarter, better prepared, and 700 pages thinner. My editor found Serina and gave her a home. And while she whittles away further at her, I have the sequels Eden’s Cross, near completion and the third book, Eden’s Charms, completely finished collecting dust as Savanah awaits her departure time. My web site will be up and running in a few weeks so you can log on to read an excerpt from the book. Let me know what you think.
*I need a name for a hawk in my fourth book. If someone comes up with a crafty name, I’ll give you a free download of my first book just as soon as it is released.
Again, thank you, Dayana for this and Wild Rose Press for hosting the month long event.

Happy Halloween!

Jaclyn

  1. Words can’t describe how happy I am for you. I have a collage of words running through my head, of how happy I am for you! Congratulations mom, all the time you spent off the clock sitting at your desk, with you hungry 19 year old child waiting upon his meal, has finally paid off. But wait, you still have more work to do, as you continue writing your sequels number 2 and 3, I shall be the one feeding you. I’m excited to see you have found a passion in writing, you’re brilliant. Now, put your brilliant mind to work as I go scavenge for my meal for us. Love your son, Chris.

  2. Chris,
Thank you for your support over the past few years. You are my diamond in the rough. I love you.

  3. Good Morning, Jaclyn! Thank you for coming here today and bringing with you your unique wit that never ceases to keep me chuckling if not hysterically rolling on the floor in mirth.

I, too, am proud of you and look forward to sampling the sequels to this wonderfully decadent novel, Eden's Black Rose.

It is a wonderous and satisfying feeling when after rejection upon rejection someone finally ventures through our beginner's wordiness and all the novice grammatical errors to see the essense of the real story and is willing to work through the excess to make our stories the best they can be.

I so remember sitting on the edge of my seat with my first novel when a publishing house showed a bona fide interest. The editing stages literally scared the crap out of me! But, they took me by the pen, worked me through the revisions gently yet with a firm demeanor and made my story into a publishable entity. For that I am thankful because without the first there would have never been a second!

Best of luck to you, my friend! I wish you all the best with Eden's Black Rose and its sequels.

And did I mention, your cover is AWESOME!

    Hugs,
    D~

I can just feel how proud the heaven's are of your accomplishment with each calming glance at the nighttime skies.

  6. Hi, Jaclyn! I suck at naming things, so will pass on your hawk question. But your story sounds great. Be sure to let us know when it's out and also when your website's up. I had the same experience with early rejections and had to tear apart my first romance manuscript, an American Civil War time travel, before it was in shape to sell. Good luck!!

  7. Dayana,
Good morning. Thank you for the invite and your kind words of wisdom. I'll send some blossom bucks your way later:) Someone, an exceptional genius, I do believe once said, "Practice and blunder, my dear." If that isn't the truth...
This experience has been the absolute best of my life. I can think of no other place I'd rather be than here. And I am looking forward to you meeting the other characters screaming inside my head, Savanah in particular in, Eden's Charms. This multiple personality thing I've got going on is mind boggling. I don't know if other authors are as stalked as I seem to be by their characters but these guys wake me up in the middle of the night, creep into my dreams, and are the worst back-seat drivers I've ever encountered... they pick the busiest times to throw in their two cents, while I'm driving down a crowded road, fumbling, trying to find my cell (yes I'm quite guilty of calling myself and leaving me messages so God forbid, I don't forget a single word one of them said to me).
I have my editor to thank for this unique opportunity because without her calm, self-assured, nurturing aura I'd be back at square 1 comforting myself with exuberant amounts of fine Hershey's chocolates. I may just have to eat my entire stock of Halloween treats as I await my edits!!! Can only imagine what they'll look like.
Ah, the cover, thank you... Nicola Martinez did a gorgeous job. I love it too. Ok, Ms. Knight, gracious host and friend, thank you again. You always leave a smile on my face after chatting with you.

  8. Judy,
Thank you for visiting the site and keeping me company this morning. I will definitely keep you up to date with the release of the book. And as for your mom, I love her. She is a beautiful woman and as for you... the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
    Thanks,
    xoxo

  9. Dearest Nevets,
You are without a doubt the most backwards, adorable, loving soul I have ever encountered and it's a great privilege to be the keeper of such a generous heart, my amour. I hope you and I will see the Taj Mahal some day together and spend countless evenings stargazing at those on Cloud 9.
    Love you more.

  10. Susan,
Thank you for dropping in. Gotta tell you, I love your cover of Eternity Waits. I love vamps. There is nothing more sexy than having a man nibble on your neck. I'd like to tell you that growing up, I too was glued to Dark shadows. One of the best all time shows out there. I'm probably wrong on the girl's name, Julie? it's been a long time since that aired but I had my mom do my hair like hers every single day. Long blond locks curled perfectly at the edge. Today the hairs not quite blond! I'll leave it at that. As for the rejection letter, I'd like to believe I developed a thicker hide from that than the sun-worshipping I did when I was younger.I wish you all the best in your sales and future endeavors. I'll let you know when my site is up and running. Thank you for the interest.

  11. Jaclyn Tracey,
Congratulations to you for finding your true passion and taking the time to look for it. Life has thrown you some tough stuff for many years. The way you brushed off the debris and carried on is wonderful. I am looking forward to reading your book. I must tell you that I am not a big fan of vampires but that won't get in my way. I keep thowing out names for your nameless hawk but nothing is working. I will have to leave that to someone else. Enjoy blogging. It is beautiful outside today so don't forget to get some warm sunshine on your face. You are not a vampire......
    Love,
    Wendy

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wendy,
You, more than anyone know the debris we've both climbed from the rubble of and we've faired well, more or less! I know you don't like vamps...I remember the poor little bat hanging in your Mom's home 3 years back. Didn't stand a chance with a bunch of us partaking in the passing one America's-nay the world's greatest men to ever walk the planet-or should I say drive like a bat of hell? Thank you for visiting me. I'll keep you updated on the book's release date. Give everyone a hug.
    xoxo you
    Jack

  13. Jackie,
As for the eagle what part does he play in the story? Makes a difference in a name. Is he a good eagle? Got to get a feel for him before a name comes. Although, I have to say I kind of like Thor. Judi

    ReplyDelete
  14. Judy,
Think Hawk! Not eagle. Eagles are pretty but I have a few hawks that hang out in my back yard occasionally scoping out dinner. I think they are beautiful birds, and very protective of their young. My hawk is just that, a protector.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Okay Jackie I got it. Hawk preditor protector. I am off too work will be thinking about this. Judi

Yes you can get the book in England. All you have to do is go to The Wild Rose Press site and go to the Black Rose Line and find the book. It's pretty easy. And if you can't get the book, I'll just have to hop on a plane and hand deliver you one:)I personally like that idea. You buffing up for the movie role? hehehe!

  19. Moochie,
Do you remember when I tried reading this to your grandfather? That was agonizingly embarrassing.I won't make the same mistake twice. I do believe that you've made the Dean's list the past 2 years at school so I'm guessing you know how to read? Well, all except cookbooks! My first million will of course be spent on you! You would have it no other way:) For the record, thank you for sitting with me many of those nights and all the encouragement. I think you're amazing too.I love you more.

I am proud of you, you did it! Great work, now for the next ones...

  23. I can't tell you how proud I am of you! Such talent :) I knew the book would be published and become a hit! Having never been a fan of the paranormal, the intrigue of vampires, love, and family turmoil might just turn me around. And with Halloween almost upon us, I hope the release is soon! Can't wait to read Eden's Black Rose.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Kelley,
Thank you. The next one? Let me get this one out first:) The second will follow soon though. I'm glad you stopped in. Hopefully we'll meet up around a big old bird, with sage stuffing pouring out of him and a nice bottle of vino. A celebration is in order.
    Love ya,
    Jack

  25. Deba,
I'm amazed you're not a paranormal fan. You were born on Samhain. That goes against the laws of nature, doesn't it? I can't wait for you to read it either. That psychic was right Deba. How he knew? It's one of the reasons people read paranormal books, because there is nothing to state that other-worldly events can't happen. They just can't be explained. There is a difference. Thank you for visiting me tonight. I'll let you know when the book's release date is and the party that follows:)Miss you.Love ya

  26. Hi Jackie,

I still have my poem you wrote, but I can't wait to read your first book. Unlike Wendy, who I believe was afraid to watch Dark Shadows with me when we were kids, I love vampires. Anyway, congrats on your first of many, many, many books, and we are all very proud of you. I can't think of an appropriate name for a hawk either. Will have to give it some more thought.

    Love,
    Jamie

  27. Dayana,

Just a quick thank you for today. I enjoyed myself. I manned my post to the best of my abilities only leaving to pour things in one end and then again to watch them exit the other:)
Some day, hopefully in the near future I will get the opportunity to repay you and have you on my site as a host.
If I don't talk to you again tonight, sweet dreams. I hope your book flies off the shelves faster than the Wild Rose Press can print them:)

  28. Have been noticing many kids at school reading vampire books.... Checked with the librarian and was told Vampire stories are very popular...you are on to something Jack! Can't wait for the party- see you at the castle.
And yeah, considering I am a Halloween baby I probably should try the genre.
Thinking,I do remember reading a werewolf book once, a long time ago
your mother had just finished reading. Scared the bejeezus out of me, but it was good. I am a little envious, as I have told Jeff many times, "TALENT,I have none"- go figure!
    Anyways, I love ya Jack.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jamie,

Thank you for coming over tonight. FYI, I have one of your poems too! We'll trade them some day. Ya, I remember Wendy finding any excuse available not to watch the show with us. Oh well, that just leaves more vamps for us to love and not share. Thank you for all the cards and support you and your mom have given. I love you guys.

  30. Deba,

You are an entity all your own. I love you as my sister. I envied you all my life for your bubbly personality. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Yours is bringing people together and keeping them there, making them comfortable. You want me to go on?
Yes, there will be a party at the castle. It's also haunted:) I'll look forward to seeing you there.

  32. Congrats on a wonderful day for you, Jaclyn. And thank you for such wonderful compliments but it is you that got you here, not me. Your book is wonderful! As I've told you before I fell in love with Serina and Lucian and their quirky antics from the first page! I am looking forward to working through your much dreaded editing stage and getting this book to production as soon as we possibly can, though I'm thinking we may not make the first New Jersey snowfall, *grin*

    Best,
    Callie Lynn

  33. Wow, Jack! What a following you have! Come by anytime and hang out with me woman! As usual, you leave me quaking with laughter and having to empty my intake as well:) Looks like your day has been quite a success. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend! I look forward to dropping in and hanging out with you on your blog one of these days.
Loved having you here, Sweetie. Let's do it again, okay?

Oh, by the way, it warmed my heart that even Damon stopped by to congratulate and XXXXXXXX grandma:)

    Hugs,
    D~

  34. Callie Lynn,
Good evening. I've had fun today. It's been a much needed escape. Ever feel like you're leading a double life? Is that a yes? You're one person 7-3 and then as soon as you clock out this entirely different person hops in your BMW Z4 to drive you home, (my dream car). This new guy sneaks out of the woodwork, tosses all your inhibitions out the window and then strips you of whatever you want him to? Let him take you as far as he can before you throw up a finger of protest... or don't? The possibilities are infinite.
I feel like that most days--trapped in a suit that's too darn snug. This writing has in a twisted way saved me. And I'll say it once again to you, thank you for this opportunity from the bottom of me once broken heart. At least when I come home from work I have my comfy pants to slip on and relax.

  35. Hey D,
What can I say, my Damon loves me. He's coming home tomorrow. Cant' wait to get humped... it's what he does! You are more than welcome on my site... soon. This has given me a little ego boost. I find it humbling that my family is there for me but then they always have been. That saying, you can pick your friends but your stuck with your family... I have the greatest family ever. I'd choose them hand over fist any day of the week. And as for friends, you're up there, girlfriend! I got my wine glass to you... cheers!xxxxo

That is my first four will send more when they come to mind. Judi

  37. Judy,
the funny thing about being related to someone is they tend to think along the same lines. Andre` is one of my main characters in the book. He's Lucian's identical twin. Simone is coming in my 4th book.
    Keep going!

    ReplyDelete
  38. That is too funny! Well let me see now I am going to throw out some off the top of my head names.

  41. Hello, Jaclyn,

Great post. It's truly all about determination isn't it?

To many Native and First Nation Peoples, Hawk is seen as a messager. So, if it be a female, I offer: Irisa. If it be a male, I offer: Boden

Good luck and all good blessings with your new book!!!! Laura
