Hauntings in the Gardens...

Caper Magic

Author Veronica Lynch

 Release date

Tagline:  This attraction: Complete madness or—sheer magic?

Blurb:  P.I. Nick Forrester comes to Cape Brendan ostensibly to assist with Caper Madness, a month long celebration of everything Halloween. In reality he is tracking a woman on the run. Within days he is confronted by Annunciata Doyle, a vivid reminder of a pain-filled past.

After retreating to Cape Brendan in defeat and humiliation, Nunie Doyle's only hope was to make the best of forced retirement. There, in this quaint tourist town on the shores of Lake Ontario, she earned the love and respect of new friends and neighbors—and put her talent for helping women to good use.

With the mutual goal of making Caper Madness the best ever, Nick and Nunie fight tooth and nail on the personal level, each discovering a new side to the other, sides that make them consider making drastic changes for the rest of their lives.

This attraction: complete madness—or sheer magic?

Another awesome Hauntings in the Gardens story...

Let's take a look at Cecilia's story. Hmmm...suspense?  I love paranormal suspense.

Crimson Summer

Author: Cecilia Farrell

Paranormal romance

Release: October 27, 2014

Tagline: Keeping secrets is as dangerous as finding them out.

Excerpt:

I frowned. Don Perkins had given Daddy’s gun back to Momma, didn’t he?
“God forgive me for saying this but keep it nearby, just in case. The legends are true about that, you know. Silver and iron. They kill.”
“Let’s pray it doesn’t come to that.”
Behind him the sun was going down, red like roses, red like blood. We looked at each other for a long moment. Then I stood on my tip-toes, took his face in my hands, and kissed him on the mouth. “For luck,” I said. “Good-bye, Liam.”
He smiled sadly. “Good-bye, Ranalt.”
I didn’t leave the truck stop after Liam drove away. I couldn’t wait. I had to call my mother and ask her where Daddy’s gun was. The ‘special’ gun. She sputtered a bit but finally told me: the top shelf of the office closet. In a box marked Christmas decorations.
She didn’t ask why I wanted to know.

Blurb

What Carrick County’s powerful Phelan family want, they usually get, whether that’s land like the Fitzgerald farm, or women, like the Fitzgerald girls. Handsome Liam can’t tempt Ranalt, whose heart belongs to neighbour Colin Sweeney. But his older brother Rory attracts her sister Lacey like a magnet draws steel.

When the boys and their father Patrick visit Joe and Sheila Fitzgerald with a mysterious offer, all hell breaks loose. A furious Joe orders the Phelans off his property and away from his daughters, warning he knows what to do about their kind. Soon afterwards, Fitzgerald fences are slashed and cattle lie torn apart. Coincidence or cause for fear?

There are secrets in Carrick County people don’t dare reveal. But Ranalt will risk everything to protect her family, the man she loves and the little girl she adores. Each turn of the summer moon brings danger and in the shadows, something waits...

About the author:
“Cee” Farrell grew up in a rural area much like  Carrick County, minus the werewolves. (But there are wolves in the provincial park, so who knows?) She made her first sale to a popular confession magazine while in college. Chocolate is her favourite drug, with mocha lattes not far behind.

Cowboy Hauntings in the Garden... Wow! Who doesn't like a cowboy story?  Let's check this out:)

LOVE HER LIKE THE DEVIL

Tag Line: Kick up your heels in the local honky tonk for Halloween...but beware the devil in red cowboy boots...

Blurb: A chance meeting in a honky tonk on Halloween finds Luke in the arms of a brown-haired beauty. But if the stories he overhears are true, she may be far more than she seems...and he's more than ready to find out.

Excerpt: He adjusted his Stetson and sidled up to the bar, tossing a leg over the stool next to the buxom beauty. A heady breeze of cheap perfume plumed around him as she turned and graced him with a perfectly wicked smile. Looks like my lucky nigh—

“I wouldn’t if I were you.”

Luke glanced over his shoulder to find a pair of deep brown eyes laughing at him beneath a smooth raised brow.

“You’re the sixth guy she’s hit on since I’ve been sitting here.”

He frowned and turned back to the blonde he’d had his sights on…except her sights were now on a Captain Jack Sparrow wannabe. “Thanks a lot,” he grumbled, swiveling to face the bar.

“You’re very welcome.”

The Wild Rose Press Hauntings in the Garden collection

Linda Carroll-Bradd, Unlocked Treasure, released Oct. 20, is another piece of the collection.  Let's take a look...

Tagline: Will a prophecy keep a lonely woman from accepting the promise of adventure?

Blurb: Aleen MacRae blames the lure of the sea for breaking apart first her family then her engagement. When her interest is caught by a man she sees both in person and in a dream, she resists—afraid to believe in her aunt’s prediction that her future is tied to the sea.

Braden Williams is on the hunt for treasure buried centuries earlier by Rhode Island pirates. His search brings him to the property where Aleen lives. Collaboration on genealogy research draws them closer, and Braden steers her toward his true passion--sailing.

Attending a party with Braden’s family lets her glimpse what she’s been missing. An unexpected discovery before her date with Braden at the Halloween Midnight Organ Recital forces a decision. Will Aleen play things safe or accept what this free-spirited man offers?

Excerpt
Ah, the story of her life—practically invisible. The reminder his first sighting had been of her bikini-clad backside made her blush. Still didn’t change the facts. Aleen squared her shoulders. “I remember, but the Manor grounds are still closed.” Should she be nervous about being alone with this stranger, especially one who ignored posted rules?

Sorry for the intrusion. Let me start over.” Smiling, he approached and extended his right hand. “My name’s Braden Williams.”

Aleen bit her lower lip, but accepted his hand. “Pleased to meet you. I’m Aleen MacRae.” At the moment their hands clasped, she felt warmth flooding her fingers. With a jerk, she released her grip, tingling sensations running along her skin. Immediately, the scent of fresh air and summer breezes wafted her way. Definitely a man of the sea. Just where I foretold your future lies. Whispers of her great-aunt Zsofika’s prophecy trickled through Aleen’s thoughts. At the memory, her cheeks flamed with heat.

Wow.” Frowning, Braden flexed his hand and narrowed his gaze then dropped it to his flexing fingers. “That was bizarre.”

Static electricity, from all that wind yesterday.” A reasonable explanation. In the back of her mind, Aleen could hear Zsofika scoff, “Static schmatic. A connection like that is destiny.”

Well…” His gaze searched her face. “Aleen—hey, that’s pretty, like the direction alee.” A wide smile exposed even teeth.

Her own smile dimmed. Like I’ve never heard that before. “Thanks.” This guy was not charming his way around the rules. “Sorry, but you’ll need to come back when the gardens are open for visitors. That’s Wednesdays through—”

Yeah, I read the sign.” He gave a dismissive wave then turned to gaze back at the main house. “But I just needed five minutes to check out some dimensions and the lot layout.”

So, you woke up this morning and just decided to start out your week by trespassing?”

The Wild Rose Press Hauntings in the Garden collection

Ooooh...doesn't this look interesting?  I love witch stories!
Let's check out Eliza March's new release.

Witch's Tattoo

Pride or power, lust or love, life or death.

Tagline:
A young witch must find her soul mate and unite with him in order to defeat the dark forces gathering around her.

Release: October 13, 2014

Excerpt:
The skirt she wore barely covered her sexy ass—like a black leather napkin filled with wicked delights. Damn, the witch looked hot enough to melt ice-forged steel. He tortured himself with the image of her wearing just the pendant and the boots—thigh high, black leather cut in lacy patterns, exposing her creamy skin...
The tips of her long black hair brushed her narrow waist the way it had the night he watched her in the scrying mirror. His fingers twitched with the desire to trace her plunging neckline. A neckline that bared her deep cleavage and the pendant.

Eliza shares an interesting tidbit about the book.

"While I was attending a workshop with WRP Publisher, Rhonda Penders, she mentioned needing a few Halloween short stories, I came up with Witch's Tattoo and pitched the concept off the top of my head, growing more enthusiastic as I spoke. Thankfully, she liked the idea, too. "

The Wild Rose Press Hauntings in the Garden collection

Here's another ghostly story from The Wild Rose Press' celebration of Halloween/Samhain. Caster's Unfriendly Ghost released on October 2, 2014. Let's check out what this story is all about...

BLURB
A year after her husband’s death, Emily Tillman is ready to start dating again, and hopefully, find what she’s always wanted—marriage and children. But the man who broke her heart five years ago is back. And he’s anything but the marrying kind.

Confirmed bachelor Reese Caster is perfectly content with his life—and he’s finally over Emily, the one woman who almost made him commit. Now, his world is rocked when her dead husband shows up, demanding that Reese pursue Emily to keep her out of the clutches of her latest suitor—a jerk who is only after her money.

Being around Emily again has made Reese reconsider his bachelor life style. But now that the threat of the other man is gone, the pesky ghost wants Reese to break things off. Can he and Emily find the love they were denied, or will the ghost of her dead husband destroy their chances?

EXCERPT
“Emily is the kind of woman you have to take things slowly with.”

“Sure, if this was real. But you have to step it up, turn on the charm. You need to show you care, that you know her, buy her things that she loves. Her favorite flowers are white roses, she loves dark chocolate, and her favorite wine is Merlot. You need to move in on her, hard.”

Caster gave a humorless laugh and shook his head. “Do you hear yourself? You were her husband, for God’s sake. Have some respect.”

Joey’s face flushed. “I do respect her. That’s why I don’t want this asshole putting one over on her. She deserves to find someone who will truly love her and give her the things I couldn’t.”

A note of pain in his voice almost made Caster feel sorry for him. But not as sorry as he felt for the family who lost a loved one less than half an hour ago. “Listen, I’ve performed back to back surgeries today, and had my night capped off by an emergency surgery that ended with a young girl’s death. So, you’ll understand why I’m not in the mood for this right now.”

“I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do about that. My concern is with Emily. And I need you to follow through with your end of the deal.”

“Deal, my ass. You blackmailed me into going along with this bullshit. Well, I’m out. I’ll finish the haunted forest thing, but no more of this romancing Emily crap. I can’t use her like that, I can’t break her heart again.”

“Break her heart? You sound pretty sure she’ll fall for you. My, my. Someone’s full of himself.”

Caster stood and stalked to the door. “Look, I don’t know if she will or not, I just know I can’t do this any longer. You can destroy everything I own, keep me up every night for the rest of my life, but I’m done.”

He put his hand on the door, but Joey’s voice stopped him. “I’ll tell her.”

Caster paused and turned to face him. “You’ll what?”

“Not only will I continue to screw with you, even on the job, but I’ll appear to Emily, tell her about our little scheme. What do you think she’ll think of you then?”

“You’re bluffing. You wouldn’t hurt her like that.”

Joey shook his head and closed his eyes. When he opened them, they were suspiciously damp. “I don’t want to. But I’ll do anything to keep her from making the biggest mistake of her life.”

Caster let out a resigned sigh and shook his head. “Nah, getting mixed up with the two of us was the biggest mistake of her life.”

Blurb:

Breanna McShae is a practicing green witch—harm to none, do as you will is the mantra she lives by. She must seek a familiar as her powers have reached peak and grounding does not pull enough of her magick back.  After performing a ritual asking the Goddess to provide her with her given familiar, she finds she has two animals vying for her attentions—a wolf and a raven.  The catch is one of them is the love of life and the other devastating trouble—a sikkqui—a creature that can assume any shape and sucks the very essence of human spirit and soul out leaving none but death and destruction behind.  The only way to destroy it is too perform a dark ritual, which is taboo for a green witch.  Her biggest problem is to figure out which animal is the sikkqui and then go against her very nature to destroy it without destroying herself and the shifter who has captured her heart.

Excerpt:
The monster hovered inches above his mother’s sleeping form. Hunter tried to scream, but no sound came. He tried to run, but his feet stuck as if glued to the floor. The hideous apparition turned its face to him, eyes glaring red, its wrinkled mouth forming a wide “o” as it turned back to his mother, lips crawled back revealing rows of hideously sharp teeth. Hunter tried to shift. If he could, maybe he could break loose from whatever held him. What good would it do even if he could shift? He was nothing but a helpless puppy.
He watched her body wrench as the creature sucked her spirit from her slightly open lips. A glimmering silver-white essence poured from his mother into the mouth of the creature levitating above. Her skin grayed, and her body gave one final twitch and dropped to eternal stillness. The thing drifted past Hunter, its fiery eyes locked on him. Fear slithered through him even as whatever held him in place loosened, allowing Hunter to run down the little hallway toward the room he shared with his brother. His mind screaming, no! no! no!
He reached the doorway and once again was locked in place as he watched the creature repeat the process and take his twin brother as well. Tears poured down his cheeks. His father was away, and it was up to him to protect them. He should have taken care of his mother and brother. How could he have let this happen?
Hunter trembled as the thing turned toward him. Evil emanated sending a wave of cold tremors along his spine as it righted itself and hovered inches from the floor. Then it slid forward. The boy grimaced with the effort to move his feet, but he could not. Fear nauseated Hunter and shook his body. He watched as the horrid mouth yawned open, the monster now close enough to smell its foul breath.
Hunter squeezed his eyes shut, pushing his arms out in defense, which passed right through the specter. “No! Stay away from me!”
It moved closer, stopping within inches of the quivering boy. “You will live to suffer,” it rasped. “I just want to taste…”

Happy Memorial Day!

As we enjoy the day off from work, the family barbeques, the day at the beach, let us remember those who have fallen to make a better life for us all.  Those who have fought for our freedom and continue to fight for peace and human rights.

Let us give thought to those innocents who have fallen needlessly to terroristic acts.

And finally, seek to create a better world.  Hope that if we all join together we can stamp out inhumanity, war, and needless killing and atrocities.

Peace and blessings on this Memorial Day.

Happy New Year!

Well, another year has come and gone.  Time surely does not slow for anyone! At any rate, I haven't dropped of the face of this sweet earth. Merely caught up in my life and editing which some of you may know. I am a professional editor, as well, an author.  My muse has taken a back seat for some time now. But... That is about to change.

Dayana Knight is going to be very busy this year.  I have taken down my website, Roma Wolf Tales, and will be working on a brand new look.  I have several projects in the works for later this year. I will also be working on some restructure of this blog:)

So...

May this year be filled with prosperity, change, and success for all of us.

Blessings,

~Dayana

Time moves so quickly.  I am hardpressed to believe we are nearing yet another year's end.  However, with the new year comes a fresh start, new dreams and goals, another chance to accomplish all the things we didn't this past year.

With that said, this year will be productive. This year will be successful. This year will be a year of great accomplishment. Positive energy. Good kharma.

As the New Year approaches, I am reflective of missed opportunities to persue my goals and dreams.
I will not translate these missed opportunities to negatives.  I will tread forward, light of heart, driven by my motivation to accomplish all that I can.  I will look forward--never behind. Time carries on and so shall I.

With every breath I draw I am greatful. For every minute, hour, day, month, year I am given, I am thankful.

Happy New Year!

May you prosper and be safe.

May you meet your most cherished desires.

Blessings,

Dayana

Well, it has been quite some time since I have been here...

Let's see. All I can say is life happens.  I say that with a big grin.  We sometimes need to step away in order to conclude our energy is not in the right space.  Does that make any sense?  To me it does.  I have had so much going on in my little slice of life that I became overwhelmed with the thought I have to write. I HAVE TO WRITE! WHEN WILL I HAVE TIME TO WRITE! Well... all that accomplished was to push me further and further away from the directive.

No excuses. No guilt. I am living life.  When it is time for me to pick up my Dr. Grip Gel pen/laptop I will and with joy.  No longer will I be pressured to figure out what I want to write. Where my next story will go. How long my manuscript will be.  I will just write for the pure pleasure of writing.

It's been 2 years or so since the Roma Wolftales series took off. Do I have a sequel? The answer is YES! But it will come when it is ready. As well, lots of other stories are brewing as well.  For now, I will enjoy life and my Zen on a positive plane.

I would like to share the antics for now that I experience as life lays fodder for stories before me. I am hopeful you will follow and enjoy the path along side me.

I leave you for now with a whimsical picture of my closest and most steadfast friends:)

It's a new year...

The Moon Goddess amongst the orchids.
and with it the hope for a better one than the last--at least in the craft of writing.  Resolutions and goals don't always work out as neatly as on the written page.  The whole point is I need to get back to the written page--you think?  It has been quite some time. I've dabbled, I've promised, I've even worked hard at trying but...

Well...

I didn't give my writing the commitment that I should have. My bad.

So, here I am.  No promises, no timelines, no BS talk about when, where, what.

Just do it! Yep, as Nike laments. Just do it!

True to True Blood?

I have been watching True Blood and just finished season one consequently moved on to season two and watched the first episode last night.  In retrospect, I love to watch or test watch all the shows/movies in the genre I love best, of course! Research, don't you know:) Well, I will say the jury is still out on this show.  I can't seem to toss it aside as I did with Vampire Diaries--did not like that one in the least.  I will admit, in a strange way, I am hooked on TB.  At times I'm really not sure why I continue to watch but others I reflect on an episode and chuckle to myself.  The characters at times are so dumb and backwards but then that seems part of the dark charm of this series.  I find myself laughing outloud at something humorus every single episode as well as saddened by a death--by the way, if they keep killing of the regulars there won't be anyone left!

I'm not that big of a fan of Bill but I do like Sookie.  I love Lafayette--who wouldn't? Maryanne is very strange and I haven't entirely figured out what the heck she is. Tara and Sam are likeable as well.  I have to laugh at the poor Iraq vet and the waitress that surely reminds me of Flo from Mel's Diner(if anyone remembers her and "Kiss my grits!").  I did like Rene until he turned out to be the serial killer who by the way offed my most favorite character, Sookie and Jason's grandmother!  I so loved her. She reminded me of my own sweet grandmother, God Bless her soul.

Anyway, I guess you can say though I'm still not quite sold, I will keep watching--at least for now.

I am curious at what you all think. Please feel free to pipe in and voice your thoughts on this one.

And time marches on...

Spring has come and gone, the dog days of summer are upon us and still my life seems to sway against my sitting down and writing.  I know you all have been through this. Been busy with an array of things lately. Day job demands are greater and grabbing overtime(these days we all need the extra dollars, don't we?).  Implicated an exercise program into my agenda for stress relief as well brain food and alertness.  Family life is always at the heart of matters, so...

Speaking of exercise, has anyone grabbed onto Zumba?  I am loving it! I love to dance so this program is right up my alley:) Like most people, I tend to become bored with diet and exercise programs but this one is fun.  I also change it up which keeps me interested. I add biking, walking, etc.  So far, it's working well for me.

Gonna head out and do some wicked weeding in a bit.  Whoa! Even my gardening has slacked.  Funny how we cycle through life.  Hot and heavy, cool off, then move full circle again.

Writing?  It's coming in its on good time.  Festering, I am, conniving, scheming, projects in hand.

Whew! Rough week but I'm still standing!

Laptop crashed and burned last Monday evening! Panic? Not yet.  Tried everything we could think of for two days to coax the machine to cooperate and come back up.  Turn it off/turn it on. F8 to start in safemode. But all it did was cycle off and on.  Okay now the panic is ebbing in.  Although I, for the most part, save my documents and back up the system on a regular basis, I hadn't saved them in several days! Okay, I told myself, you can recover them from the hard drive.  That is assuming the hard drive isn't damaged, as well. Oh but we won't go there as I am a 'glass is half full' type of gal:)

Okay, I call a friend who aids me in removing said hard drive and go get a nifty adapter/box so I can test the waters to see if it is, in fact, okay. It is! And as luck would have it I have a borrowed back up laptop because wouldn't you know, like the girl scout I used to be, I am pretty much always prepared. My particular laptop, a HP Pavillion Plug and Play, is involved in a class action law suit of which I have recently filed my claim. So onward and upwards.  But... Yes there's that incessant but.  Little by little things trickled into my mind that were most likely lost.  One such thing was my AOL filing cabinet.  All my important files regarding correspondence bit the dust--we are talking years of stuff that were necessary keeps!

Lesson here: if you do nothing else on a daily basis back up your system, your files, and your mailboxes!

I do have a happy ending, however.  Although my filing cabinet and all correspondence as of Monday are toast along with my laptop, I brought a brand new laptop yesterday, have the promise of a replacement machine from HP sometime in the near or distant future(who knows with litigation cases), and a lot more techie knowledge than I ever had:)  Next purchase: A large external hard drive that will be programmed to back up system daily!

Good Morning! And a beautiful sunshining day it is:) Well, the week is over, the day job done for a bit and other projects have been wrapped up and safely set aside for the time being...

Time to roll up my sleeves and dive into more rewrites!  Actually, I am very excited about it. Big change from the procrastinator I'd become when I even thought about the chore of rewriting Dancing on the Edge.  I would love for you to join me in my venture. I've even added a comment box so you can put your two cents in along the way.  Please check out my progress by clicking the link below the header above.  I really have made some fantastic progress in only one weekend!

Looking forward to hearing what you think.

I'm back! Remember I mentioned that my dear departed friend, Joan, had helped me to break into the wonders of being a published author? Do you also remember that I'd pulled my first published title, a crime romance novel, when the contract at ePress-Online had run its course for revisions?  Well...

I am actively rewriting and revising that book! I am excited that my muse has returned, and I am once again motivated to WRITE! And more importantly, I once again have something to thank dear, dear Joan for.  I feel it necessary to get this book out there again for Her. She is my motivation, and I will be dedicating this republication to her memory.

Thank you, Joan. You are so instrumental in my career that Dancing on the Edge WILL once again see publication:)

For more information on the revision of this book, I will be creating a special page on this blog to follow the process.

As always, thanks for stopping by.
